Anhingidae is a family of birds in the order Suliformes, consisting of darters and their extinct relatives. The holotype is tarsometatarsus that is similar but different from the one in living Anhingidae species that are all classified into Anhinga.[2]

Anhingidae date from at least late Oligocene (26-25 Ma) (Anhinga waterbolesi).[2]
