Peer Review Updates
[edit]I am using the peer review tool (using monoboook) This will hopfully help this article. I will be updating this per the peer review tool. Hopfully, this list will decrease, and the quality of the article will be better.
- Please expand the lead to conform with guidelines at Wikipedia:Lead. The article should have an appropriate number of paragraphs as is shown on WP:LEAD, and should adequately summarize the article.[?]
- There may be an applicable infobox for this article. For example, see Template:Infobox Biography, Template:Infobox School, or Template:Infobox City.[?] (Note that there might not be an applicable infobox; remember that these suggestions are not generated manually)
- Per Wikipedia:Context and Wikipedia:Build the web, years with full dates should be linked; for example, link January 15, 2006.[?]
- Per WP:WIAFA, this article's table of contents (ToC) may be too long- consider shrinking it down by merging short sections or using a proper system of daughter pages as per Wikipedia:Summary style.[?]
- Avoid using contractions like (outside of quotations): aren't.
- Please ensure that the article has gone through a thorough copyediting so that it exemplifies some of Wikipedia's best work. See also User:Tony1/How to satisfy Criterion 1a.[?]

Comments on Peer Review Updates
[edit]- Post comments here about the Peer Review Updates. -AMK152 02:21, 13 August 2006 (UTC)
- As of right now, we don't really have a free use image, and there already is an infobox (but could be expanded more.) So basically, this article just needs to be copyedited, in addition to those suggestions that were not automated. -AMK152 02:23, 13 August 2006 (UTC)
- We could find a free use image...just make sure all images have a rationale so they aren't deleted. ForestH2 t/c 16:37, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
- Aren't they Free use images? I mean they wen't uploaded on a Yahoo or Google image search...I think there free use images, since there watched on a computer, and not uploaded from Google or Yahoo. ForestH2 t/h/c 00:49, 9 September 2006 (UTC)

Bikini Bottom and the city of Los Angeles
[edit]There is a statement in the article that Bikini Bottom resembles Los Angeles. The citation for this statement in merely an episode title. This seems wrong. LA is a very crowded city full of sky-rises. SpongeBob's street seems to have wide open spaces. Additionally, the Krusty Krab is in the middle of nowhere. SpongeBob's driving lessons occur on endless streets in a buildingless countryside. I know there are some populated areas with buildings, but it is nothing like LA's overcrowding.--DarkTea 14:37, 22 February 2007 (UTC)
Remove this from the article / New peer review
[edit]I think this part of the article should be removed:
National anthem
[edit]Bikini Bottom has its own national anthem, which goes as follows:
- Oh, Bikini Bottom, we pledge our hearts to you,
- As faithful, as deep, as true, as blue,
- Bikini Bottom, we love you!
It's sounds kind of fancrufty for an article that is trying to reach featured article status. Here's a new peer review, since AMK hasn't updated it for months.
The following suggestions were generated by a semi-automatic javascript program, and might not be applicable for the article in question.

Not much has changed since the last peer review. Squirepants101 01:27, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
- The actual words to the anthem don't have to be there, but at least a mention that there is an anthem. -AMK152(Talk • Contributions • Send message) 01:53, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
Also, come on people, who in the world put "under Bikini Atoll, Pacific Ocean"? Seriously. Do you guys even know what that is? It's the place of the United States Thermonuclear bomb testing for Operation Castle and Operation Mike. Thats not even funny, and whatever crackpot came up with the "under Bikini Atoll" stuff, should die in a ditch, and never get on Wikipedia again. It sounds like someone just put that there on a whim, with no consideration for the people who actually LIVED there, and were forced out because of us.

- Actually, this whole article is one huge mass of fancruft, IMO. I'm the one who started (anonymously) listing the features of Bikini Bottom (including the anthem) way back when, and now I'm almost sorry I did. What was once a simple, harmless list has grown into an exhaustive textbook for a SpongeBob 101 class that doesn't appear encyclopedic at all. It is not necessary, or even helpful, to list and explain EVERY possible detail about BB, which is what this article appears to be doing at this point. Even I, as a SB fan, don't find this enormous amount of detail helpful, or even that interesting. In fact, I avoid looking at this article, because I find it almost nauseating, to be honest. (No offense meant to any fan or editor.) I'm going to add the "Rewrite" tag to the top of the article, because I feel that this article desperately needs one--and I mean a *complete rewrite* - wipe the slate clean and start anew, this time paying better attention to Wikipedia's guidelines on articles about fiction. --CrazyLegsKC 15:49, 28 April 2007 (UTC)
Beginning Info
[edit]I believe that the part that says: "The city is self governing, though politically a part of Canada and British Columbia. The inhabitants pay City taxes, and vote in Canadian General Elections, but do not share the same services as Mainland Canadians. The current Mayor and Prime Minister of Bikini Bottom is Ozzy Osbourne" should be deleted. There is no proof for the statement made. Naruto_2008 (talk) 02:36, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
Comments from the new peer review
[edit]I've submitted a new peer review for Bikini Bottom and this is what I got so far:
It's far too in universe - it's not enough to just say 'such and such is a fictional...' and then go on in the rest of the article treating it as if it's real. All of your citations are to the show itself - did the creators of the show ever discuss Bikini Bottom in interviews etc.?
Might as well tag this article as being written in an in-universe style, then. I will update this everytime the request for peer review receives a new comment. Squirepants101 12:31, 29 March 2007 (UTC)
- Sadly, I don't know how to fix this. I'm going to offer my opinion on how to improve the article rather than what was given in the peer review. In order for this article to have a perspective of the real world, it must have references, such as this and this (note how published books are used as references. This article has none of those kinds of references. It only has references to the show itself, with the exception of the Nickelodeon TV schedule. See this for examples of other types of sources that can be used as references).
- The article may refer to the real world by saying that such and such is similar to whatever is in the real world; however, much of the article does not contain real-world factors that may have influenced the work. Read the section on education or health. Do you find any factors that may have influenced the work? No! None at all.
- The article does not appear to mention how it may have influenced other creators and their projects/TV pitches and shows. It does not have anything on popularity among the general public. After all, SpongeBob SquarePants is a very popular show.
- Other problems that this article has is that only one image has a fair use rationale and I added it. This is all I have to say for now. Squirepants101 05:53, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
I think that the "History" section should extended with the fact that in one episode when Spongebob made giant statues (probably a potential spoof of easter island heads) of himself that make a musical sound. At the end the show jumps to the future into a documentary about how no one knows where the statues came from. That bit of info should be added to the "History" section. Revised article
[edit]I revised the article. I re-arranged the ordering of something (ex. put events under entertainment, removed sports and put it elsewhere). I hope this help get rid of all that fan cruft and makes that article better —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bigvinu (talk • contribs) 23:30, 26 November 2007 (UTC)
Relation to Bikini Atoll?
[edit]Does anyone know if there is any relation to the home of spongebob, and the location of the nuclear test site? (Lucas(CA) (talk) 02:10, 20 March 2008 (UTC))
- I still say that it makes since. Since there are real live people and real live...life, going above the sea. So a nuclear radiation leak could cause the residents of bikini bottom to have human like intelligence. --Obaidz96 (talk • contribs • count) 00:13, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
The directions to Bikini Bottom?
[edit]In the first section, it says the following: According to Nickelodeon: (SpongeBob SquarePants) "To get to Bikini Bottom... Find the Pacific Ocean, and go UNDER it! When you see Hawaii, make a hard left! Keep going... you can't miss it!"
Is there anything to prove that Nickelodeon said that? --Obaidz96 (talk • contribs • count) 00:15, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
Time Zone
[edit]If Bikini Bottom is in the Pacific Ocean, shouldn't it be in pacific time (or Hawaii time)? The article states that Bikini Bottom is in the Eastern time zone. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.39.108.133 (talk) 21:48, 9 October 2010 (UTC)
