[edit]Article should include information about Sir Joseph Priestly and his discovery of oxygen during his tenure are Bowood estate.
- Added a brief paragraph. More information is already at Joseph Priestley and Bowood House (where Priestley actually made the discovery). Feel free to expand on this if you want! Thanks -- munt fish 11:42, 2005 Apr 14 (UTC)
Updates
[edit]Hello, I've recently added an infobox (template copied from Chippenham) and a references section. In my last edit I also moved the Council arms image to be next to the 'Representatives' section, as that is a more appropriate place.
Some things need to be worked on still, and I'll see what I can do.

Was it not at Calne that St.Dunstan had the synod where the floor fell in ? Streona (talk) 10:56, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
Yes it is. New edit posted. Streona (talk) 11:27, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
Can someone PLEASE confirm the meaning of the word "Scramel" as mentioned on this site? I have lived in Calne since 1973 and have met no one who can confirm the meaning. I have checked several on-line dictionaries including the Urban Dictionary, is this a piece of possible "vandalism"? please confirm, many thanks Phildan1969 22:57, 19 April 2008 (UTC)
I have deleted the line refering to 'Scramel'. Not a word, unless anyone wants to prove otherwise. Chappers1 (talk) 12:53, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
How do you pronounce the town's name?
[edit]--87.194.205.50 (talk) 10:47, 30 September 2008 (UTC)
Like this: C, A (as in "axe"), L, N, and with a local accent the AL sounds more like OW (as in "cow"), so Calne usually sounds like it rhymes with gown. I've occasionally heard it pronounced other ways (for example, with a lengthened A, as in "yeah maaaaaan", or with the A in "part") but I have never heard it pronounced the way the article says it is (with a schwa), and I've lived round here for nearly thirty years. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.147.0.252 (talk) 22:41, 4 December 2012 (UTC)
