article rewrite to strict wiki
[edit]this article calls out to be rewritten and re-sourced, with all poorly or incorrectly sourced, or completely unsourced material removed. it also seems to be contain a lot of npov marginally notable information.
if anyone has actual sourced critique not from original research industry marketing and survivor testimony, this would make it a better article. thanks, happy editing! SkidMountTubularFrame (talk) 02:22, 11 May 2022 (UTC)
- any third hand information with dates and names, regarding cia thought experiments, is going to need sources other than tin ones.
¶ Someone with authority deleted my reference to a book, which I had added right after the mention of the exposé in the Point Reyes Light, but the book, The Light on Synanon: How a Country Weekly Exposed a Corporate Cult And Won the Pulitzer Prize (1980, 370 pages) is by Dave Mitchell and Cathy Mitchell, who ran the Point Reyes Light, did the investigation, and wrote this book detailing all the corruption and a good deal of behind-the-scenes dangers they encountered. ISBN 0872236137. It is the best source for details about the Synanon scandal. Sussmanbern (talk) 05:40, 9 November 2022 (UTC)
Active in Germany?
[edit]The article lead states that Synanon is still active in Germany and the info box says the same, but there is no further reference to the German branch or its activities in the rest of the article. Everything else says that Synanon dissolved in the 90s, with no mention at all of any currently active branch or activities. I don't think Germany is even mentioned as a place Synanon was ever active (seems to be entirely US-based according to the article) except for those two places. What is going on? Was it ever in Germany? Is it still? If not, why does the article state that it is? If so, why isn't there a section on current activity or any information about that branch? --Cromwellt|talk|contribs 17:25, 9 February 2023 (UTC)
- Synanon definitely still exists in Berlin: de:Stiftung_Synanon(Homepage, leaflet in English, Reddit thread). It was founded independently as a drug recovery self-help organization, then later associated itself with Synanon. Apparently in the late 1970s they distanced themselves from the US organization[1] but kept the name. Synanon Berlin has been criticized as totalitarian and cult-like but doesn't seem to present as a religion. Their vans are often to be seen in Berlin, people hire them as movers and the like. --2.204.224.123 (talk) 15:43, 28 June 2023 (UTC)
